I've mentioned before that my siblings and I grew up in the home of a cake decorator so birthday cake held no special allure to us. We were used to the smell of buttercream and cakes baking every day so it was no big whoop to have "birthday" cake.
My nieces and nephews aren't as blase as we were but they still had had plenty of cake so this time I decided to go out on a limb and be more adventurous. What could be more fun than a Spiderman skyscraper for Isaac and a little Love Bug for Jordan made out of rice krispy treats? I'm sure there are more adventurous things in life but I know we all ahd a good time with it, especially since the treats were a fun, tongue-coloring blue.
It's a little gross in the pan, isn't it? :-) But the kids LOVED It.
Little pans all in a row...
The only car Jordan's getting for her 16th birthday... but at least she got to take the whole thing home intact to share with her friends.
We ate the lower half of Isaac's skyscraper but I'll send all the toys and along with his presents to Isaac later this week. He'll have fun with the tower and Spiderman. It has a wind up function and an on/off switch to make Spiderman spiral around the tower. It's really cute!
You know...hmmm...to vent or not to vent...okay, let's just say that I had a conversation with my brother two days ago and he said he'd go get the kids (Isaac and his little sister Kaylee) for this party. He, my brother, was aware of the party because it was planned over 2 months ago. My niece, Jordan, had talked to Carl's ex-wife 2 days ago and she swore she was bringing the kids because (some long vindictive and hateful story about Carl's new girlfriend) of whatever. Both of the kids are in the physical custody of the ex's parents. Apparently neither my brother or his ex ever really intended to bring the kids to Isaac's birthday party with our family because neither one of them bothered to let the grandparents know about it and Isaac was away with other family on a camping trip, not that either of the adults showed up either, that's just what we figured out when no one showed and we called the grandparents who had no idea what we were talking about.
I really have no patience with people who treat their children like inconveniences after a divorce, especially when they're in my own family. There's no excuse for that kind of immature irresponsible behavior, although the folks who do it (and we all know some) are full of excuses they want you to believe makes them the innocent party and their ex-spouse the "evil" one.
No excuses, folks. The kids are the most important after a divorce, not revenge or new lovers or your own personal time. The kids.
Your cakes always are fantastic Glenna!
In this case so is your story. Divorce is a real character reveal.

I love the cakes! But, I'm disgusted that Issac couldn't be there to have fun with his relatives. I remember how much he loved the last birthday cake you made for him. He would have loved being there, eating the cake.
By the way, my favorite car of all time was my VW Superbeetle, and it was blue. Lord, I sure loved that car and hated to get rid of it, even though there was a big hole in the floorboards!

Amen to that, sister. Kids are not toys you can just toss after a divorce. Oy.
Buuut - those cakes look fantabulous. I am really craving a super buttery rice krispy treat now (imo, the only way to have them, lol)!

What a lovely idea to make cakes this way, they look great! Could you tell what's in them; I see ricecrispies and some blue foodcolouring obviously, but are the marshmallows in the pan as well?
Looking so much fun!
