You have to go see these cakes. The first is Kathe who comments pretty regularly here on my blog and we've been chatting behind the scenes about cakes. She volunteered (or was drafted? :-) ) to make a friend's baby shower cake. Kathe has some experience but was a little nervous about the whole fondant big stacked cake thing so she practiced a lot beforehand and used the marshmallow fondant recipe from my blog. Her post is really fun with her step by step photos from oven to fridge to fondant to finished.
Check her cake post on My Space out by clicking here--KATHE'S CAKE POST
It's beautiful, she did a fantastic job. Hope her friends really loved and appreciated it, too. Love the way she did the flower petals. I'm going to have to steal that one, you know.
I do have a funny (to me) story about this post. Gene and I are sitting here in the office on dueling computers (we don't share our toys well) so I scrolled down Kathe's post (didn't look beforehand) so that he could see the cake-in-progress pics too and I read it out loud to him. When I got to the end where Kathe said THE SWEETEST thing, that I'm "awesome" for giving her advice, Gene and I both cracked up because our niece Sydney that we talk about all the time, the deaf one, of course has some speech problems. Her new favorite saying is "That is freaking awesome!" EXCEPT out of her mouth, because of her hearing deficit, it comes out "Dat id FWEAKIN' AWETUM!" We make fun of her all the time by repeating it because it's so damn cute to us.
So, Kathe, just so you know, we've been looking at your pics for 20 minutes now shouting out "DAT CAKE ID FWEAKIN' AWETUM!!!!"
In other cake news, Stephanie, whose husband Jeff writes "C for Cooking" is also learning cake decorating and she also did a baby cake and the cutest cookies. I'm going to steal a pic of her cake as well but you have to go to the site to see the cookies. They're like baby onesies, just adorable.
Also an "awetum" cake, and Jeff's photography is always so creative and fun. He highlights her skills well. Steph also runs a step-by-step photo display of building herr cake so it's also a very educational post as well, plus there are cute pics of Stephanie in her purple and red apron, grinning.
That post is here--STEPHANIE'S BABY CAKE & ONESIE COOKIES.
As a little plug for myself, if you haven't seen my cakes I've posted on the blog, click on "CAKES" in the category list to the right.
