The RN's on our Oncology floor decided to host a bakesale in the hospital lobby to benefit Relay for Life. Great idea! I ran up there the other day and told them that I'd bring something for the sale but I didn't know what it would be. This is what I ended up making for them:
24 triple chocolate cupcakes with marshmallow fudge frosting:
And 8 banana/walnut mini bundts:
They started the sale at 8:30am yesterday morning. They sold out of product by 2pm. They made $350 for Relay for Life in the process. Wooooohooooo! It was so well received by employees and visitors (and a few patients who brought their IV poles down with them see what was available) that they're doing it again in April. I'm already planning what to make.
And here's how it went for me...I walked in and ran across a few people from my department who said "Got one of your cupcakes downstairs. They're great!" "Thanks" but it wasn't until about the third person that it occurred to me to ask "How did you know they were mine?" because I hadn't told anyone I was baking for that. Steve said "They told me!" As soon as any respiratory people showed up the RN's started in one them "One of your therapists baked this and this." My fellow RT's are so nice and so supportive. They've always raved any time I've brought in anything for potlucks and they spread the word so that apparently my dept made a sweep for my cupcakes. Ahhhhhhhh, that made me feel really good.
But the best part is how successful it was. I'm really proud of 5 West for putting that together. They rock!
Cooking to Combat Cancer : This post is part of a blogging event hosted by Chris of Mele Cotte who is also a cancer survivor. Cooking to Combat Cancer is her way of celebrating her cancer free anniversary each year. Check in at her blog www.melcotte.blogspot.com after April 9th to see her round up cancer fighting foods.
I would have bought a cupcake too b/c they are beautiful and, hello? did you say 'triple chocolate'? Oh yum!
My three year old just waved her hand over the screen -- "Oh, mom, I love all of these and these and these! Can I have one?" My thoughts exactly! ;-)
So cool the bake sale was a success! Great way to raise money -- bake beautiful treats and let others pay to consume the calories! :-D

Melody--Ahhh, thanks for telling me about your daughter liking them. My favorite cakes to bake used to be kids' birthday cakes because they're always so excited!
I love that they're going to do another bake sale. I'll be more prepared this time. They said the tentative date is May 1...yay!
Alanna--Thanks! The bundts were good. It was a new recipe but they turned out well.
Amanda--thank you very much!
Kyleen--Ha! You have my number (pun inteneded). Gene and I shared one so they really only got 23.
Sher--thank you! The best part was the frosting. I mixed the fudge frosting with marshmallow cream and it was really good! I had to make Gene his own little cake with it, he loved it so much.

Wow, great job! And I'm jealous that you found the silver beads, they've been out of stock here since the holidays.

Butta Buns--weeeeellll, I have a little secret. Since I used to decorate cakes I have several of those backstocked that I'm still using. Although, my latest find was in Napa Valley and that was the pearl dragees. They are beautiful. Would have looked great on wedding cakes back when I was decorating full time.
Chris--Thank you so much! I'm thrilled to be a part of your event!
