My friend, Lisa Ellison, hosts an annual all day Breast Cancer knit-a-thon BOOB-raiser at her yarn shop, One City Market, to create pretty and perky, and pretty perky!, breast prosthetics for mastectomy patients. I love her attitude about the project: "No boring white, tan, and browns. We are the Victoria's Secret of replacement boobs!" So true. Don't we all feel a little prettier and more confident when our undies-wear are beautiful?
It's not just knitters we need--we also need boobie stuffers and boobie decorators too so EVERYONE is invited.
Here's what you need to know:
One City Market's Knit-A-Tit
Date: Saturday, October 8, 2011
Time: 10am--late afternoon
This is a drop-in/drop-out event. Come for an hour or two, or bring a lunch and a lawn chair and stay all day! The shop is in an adorable renovated house with a wrap-around porch and a nice lawn (very Eureka Springs). Hope for great weather so we can sit outside and truly enjoy the sun for once without being burned to a crisp like it's been this whole gosh-awful summer.

If you'd like to get a head (boob) start, here's the pattern:
Knit-A-Tit
Materials
Skein of sport, dk, or worsted (medium) weight cotton yarn
Set of size 5 or 6 double point needles (dpn). Adjust needle sizes to make a nice fabric; not too tight or too loose, around 5-6 stitches per inch.
Darning needle
Directions:
Using appropriate size dpn's for the yarn, cast 3 stitches on one needle, leave a 12" tail.
Knit 2 rows in I-cord (never turn needle).
Knit 1 row, increasing a stitch in every stitch (knit in the front and the back of the stitch). (6 sts)
Divide the 6 sts among 3 needles to join the round. Place a marker at the last stitch.
Continue knitting in rounds, increasing 1 stitch before the last stitch on each needle. After knitting a few rounds, bring the tail from the beginning to the inside of the tit.
Knit 16-40 stitches per needle (to make different sized breasts).
For an A-cup 16-19 sts, B-cup 20-25 sts, C-cup 26-30 sts, D-cup 32-40 sts. Have fun with it--knit something other than what you personally own!
Purl two rows around.
Switch to one size smaller dpn's if desired.
Continue knitting in rounds. Decrease 1 st (k2tog) at the end of each needle on every round until 3-5 stitches remain on each needle. Using your darning needle, loosely pull yarn through loops and take off the dpn's, cutting a 12" tail. Leave open to be filled.
Stuff tit with fiberfill into a breast shape, while bring I-cord (nipple) yarn tail through the center of the stuffing and out through the hole. Leave yarn tails free for wearer to adjust to their size and shape. Embellish with fabric paint designs (tattoos) or nipple jewelry to make pretty and sexy.
