I'm currently (and have been for the last week) knitting and organizing furiously for Christmas Knitting in the NICU. There's a local TV station coming to film tomorrow which is awesome, but which also cut our planning/knitting/organizing time down by two weeks.  Not complaining at all, just explaining.  Will be back soon.  In the meantime, if you'd like to see what I've, along with my nifty knitting co-horts, have done in the the past, check out these links:

Knitting for the NICU: Let the Halloween Posts Begin

I don't post each holiday's Knitting for the NICU hats here on the food blog much anymore, not because I don't do it, but because I started another blog just for the NICU knitting. We're having a bumper crop of fall holiday hats this year, thanks to our wonderful knitters, so if you'd like to see the silly, sweet, and scary hats coming off our needles this Halloween, I'm presenting a different hat style each day leading up to Halloween starting today. "Warm Hats for Wee Noggins" by Glenna Anderson Muse

 

I'm thrilled to announce--"My book is here!" Wow, that is a unique and peculiar feeling to hold a published work in your hand and see your name in print. It's both gut-tingling and humbling at the same time. 

 I only wish my Mom and Nannie had been with me to see it.  I think they both would have enjoyed seeing it and being a part of this whole project. But not to dwell on loss, thank you to EVERYONE who is a part of this project directly or by encouraging me in the mania of the last four years of baby-hat-designing!

The book should be available after September 1, 2011 anywhere Leisure Arts craft books are sold (Hobby Lobby, Michael's, Jo-Ann Fabrics, etc). If it is not in stock, please ask at their service desk for it by name/my name/publisher and I'm sure they can easily bring it into stock.

It is also available now at the Leisure Arts website and should be available eventually at Amazon.

Keeping babies warm is so important to their health! That's why Glenna Anderson Muse designed these knit hats for babies in the hospital where she works as a respiratory therapist. So that every baby can have a cozy cap, the sweet patterns are written for three sizes of preemies and three sizes of term babies (newborn, 3-6 months, and 12 months). Each of the 19 designs uses medium weight yarn and is based on one of four basic hat styles: Basic Paper Bag Hat, Basic Jester, Basic Beanie, and Basic Cone. Knitting for the NICU: "Seasonal Hats for Babies" Book Update

 I just heard from the publisher that my knitting booklet "Seasonal Hats for Babies" will start shipping to stores September 1, 2011.

 The book contains 18 designs I've created for our NICU and the patterns range in size from micro-preemie through 12 months.

Will update with local stores and mail order addresses as I get that information!

Knitting for the NICU: 4th of July Independence Day 2011

 

We have lots of patriotic hats to help our babies and their parents celebrate 4th of July in the NICU!  This first pic is my little red, white, and blue contribution, a combination of patterns from over the last four years.

 

 Kathy created this FABULOUS Uncle Sam design!

 

All but two of these will stand up like the previous Uncle Sam design--so cool!

 

Ronda knitted flags that came out beautifully (even though I didn't catch a glitch in the pattern until she was done) and they're wonderful!

 

Yung created watermelon (what's better for 4th of July?) and patriotic stunners!

 

Kathy again came up with these adorable red, white, and blue munchkins.

 

And these are three adorable toppers from Brittany's grandmother that I had leftover from last year. Glad to get to see them again and pass more of these cuties on.

And not to forget Shelly who has hats at work that I'll add a pic of in later and our newbiews who have just completed their first adorable posey hats that I'll photograph and take to the NICU later in the summer.

Knitting for the NICU: Easter 2011

 

I am so excited for our NICU babies.  A bunch of wonderful gals have volunteered to knit with me for our babies so instead of just me and my little silliness we have a whole room full of talented knitters creating gorgeous hats for our little Littles this year.  Starting with Easter bunnies, chicks, and eggs, thank you so much for my partners in crime:  Shelly Grant, Kathy Grimes, Yung Bishop, Suzanne Anderson, Jordan McAdams, Sydney McAdams, and Nicole Kirk.  Shelly, Kathy, Yung, and Nicole are all RT's with our hospital, Suzanne is my sister, and Jordan and Sydney are my teenaged nieces. I could say they're my sister's daughters but that would imply that they belong to her but they don't. They're mine and I just allow Suzanne to raise them.  :-)

 

I'll be bringing in two big bags of hats today:  one marked Easter and one marked Spring/Summer as we get new babies after Easter.

 

 

We've designated Kathy as our resident animal maker--how cute are these? I can't decide which are my favorite, they're all so adorable!

 

Yung has become happily obsessed with making flowers and butterflies--aren't they beautiful?
