Does anyone else remember Tang Tea mix that was very in vogue as a food gift about 20-25 years ago? Anyone else a little horrified by the amount of sugar that was in it? Okay, maybe that was just me. I've updated the tang tea recipe with sugar substitutes and added a "liquid vitamin" component that makes this hot winter tea even more comforting especially during cold and flu season. I need
I to make more. I've already gone through one of my containers of mix and haven't given to all my giftees yet. Oops!
Winter Cold Pomegranate Comfort Tea
Recipe by Glenna Anderson Muse, inspired by the "Friendship" or "Tang Tea" my mother used to make.
- 1 jar Instant Tea (Makes 30 qts size), unsweetened (or a large can of sweetened instant tea with lemon flavoring but the nutritional counts will be higher)
- 2 boxes (Makes total 20 qts) of Crystal Light (or other brand) Pomegranate/Cherry diet drink mix
- 1 box (30 pkts) Emergen-C Immune Defense/Support in Ruby, Lemon, Honey flavor or Citrus flavor (can be found at Walgreen's, K-mart, Wal-mart, some grocery stores)
2 cups Splenda
Optional: 1 TBSP cardamon or nutmeg (gives it more of an adult taste spiciness)
Mix together in an oversized mixing bowl or pot (2-3 gal depending on which kind of tea you use). Divide into individual containers with air-tight lids.
Make labels with "Directions: 2 tsp mix per 10 oz mug hot water. Stir and enjoy."
Decorate containers as appropriate for giving occasion.
Makes 6 cups.
