Great post! I wish more school had this type of food. In my school they did have a salad bar with fresh veggie and fruit options every day but the main dish selections were pretty fat, salt and sugar-laden.

Thank you, Kalyn. My school (my high school) had none of these. I'm totally jealous. We had the choice of the one hot entree plate or there was a little room off to the side where you could go get burgers or hot dogs (I think) and chips and sodas. Not very healthy or even a wide variety!

That was an excellent post Glenna! I do admire Jamie O. he's forever trying to educate
us on what's healthy to eat, I remember the programmes on British TV, when he visited a primary school in the north of England. He held up a handful of broccoli & asked the children if they knew what it was...there was silence, I'm not kidding! He then asked them if they knew where peas came from, one little girl put her hand up & replied "out of the packet"!
I've always tried to eat healthily & keep an eye on my weight, which is harder the older I get, I have to admit sometimes I'm screaming for fish & chips lol, but I try to keep it to a minimum, I have to or my R.A. Consultant will be on my case!

I am a proud cousin of one of the Eureka Lunch ladies. I wish they could come to Cleveland and show our lunch program in my childrens school how it is done. My children go to Charter Schools and get there lunch brought in and they do NOT at all have nutritous breakfasts . That is one major complaint of mine. DOnuts and Poptarts are not on the nutrition menu to me. Just keep doing the great job for there kids and hopefully around the nation will open there eyes and see how big of a problem this really is !!
