Today is sort of mine and Gene's 15th wedding anniversary. Or tomorrow. Depends on which is more convenient. We were married on leap day so on a non-leap year we get to pick which day we want to celebrate.
No, I didn't make this cake. We had other things going on. He was helping our sister-in-law move and I was....well, truth be told, I was out at an all afternoon lunch and gab session with the girls. Hey, it was a great celebration for me!
The cake came from a local bakery, Supreme, that's been open for something like 40 years. Second to my own (I'm trying to type that modestly) it's my favorite place for celebration cakes. I thought they did a good job on this little chocolate treat. Loved the banners under the message. Very cool. The cake was a butter cake covered in pecans and caramel with a dark chocolate ganache over all of that. It was good. Loved the caramel/chocolate topping. The cake was a little dry from being slightly overbaked but I'm a real stickler for that because of my mom being such a stickler for not overbaking. But not bad for store bought. Gene said it would be even better in the morning with a cup of coffee for breakfast.
Fifteen years. And we dated five or six years before we got married. That's a long time. It's kind of mind boggling when I think about it. We've had our ups and downs and the last couple of years with me going back to school have been bumpy, but all in all, I think we've done well and I can't imagine my life without him. That's what it really comes down to so here's to another fifteen years...and another fifteen after that.
Happy Anniversary, Honey!
