Back when I had the cake business, I used to try new designs out on the family sometimes. This was one of them. I actually sort of stole the poinsettia look from Collette Peters so let's not pretend it was MY design but close enough. It was new to me. She used fondant. My family and most of my customers thought I was trying to make them eat play dough when I used fondant so this is was frosted with very smoothed down chocolate buttercream (hint: flat bladed knife and a glass of extremely hot water) and colored decorating gel. The cake was a big hit at our family Christmas party that year, even for a bunch of not really big chocolate eaters. I know, it's very un-American of us to admit that but it's true. It's not that we hate chocolate, it's just that we'd rather have creme brulee any day over chocolate cake. It must be a genetic thing.

Are you sure it was OUR family? I don't remember that cake. It is absolutely beautiful. Wanna try another one?

Hey, I admire Miranda's technique! :) Yes--make it again Glenna. And send me some. It's beautiful--as all your cakes are. More cake pictures!

Auntie Miranda--Are you sure you're in MY family? Hee hee. Yes, it was. I remember it clearly because Uncle Andy put his arm around my shoulder as I went to cut it and said "Sis, it's almost too beautiful to cut. But I'll take the first piece." :-)
Sher--I know! She almost had me on that one!
Tinakala--Thank you so much!

It looks wonderful. There are time in my personal palate I would choose chocolate over cream brulee...but hey that is just me.

We non-chocoholics are in a minority, but we're mighty! I couldn't believe your post about this, it so nearly matches what I said only a couple of weeks ago in a post about meringue cookies, by way of a long rumination about role reversals (the Huz falls into the majority choco clan). Beautiful cake, Glenna, you make such feasts-for-the-eyes all the time!

Man...I have no doubt my wife would love to sit with you and learn all about making beautiful cakes!

Coffeepot--Hey, no offense meant to the chocoholics, I totally understand!
PatL--Thank you so much and that's a riot. We must have been thinking alike.
Jeff--Would love to decorate with Steph. She's done some really nice cakes. I love that she's taking classes.
Cookiecrumb--LOL! That cracked me up--my new favorite compliment--thank you!
