Just for Torture: Goodbye to Mr. BLT, We Loved You Well

Blt

I forgot to do a post on this back when we all still had those juicy red luscious tomatoes from the garden, or the neighbor's garden, in my case.  At the time I also had yummy soft croissants from the bakery, thick-cut hickory smoked bacon from Schwan's, extra spicy clear-your-sinuses mustard, crisp boston lettuce, and a red onion with a bite.  Sigh.

I love everything about fall: the colors, the coolness, the food, the harbinger of the holidays, but I'm a bit sorry to say goodbye to summer as the cold weather moves in. It always makes me both energetic in that fall feels like the REAL New Year but always whistful to put an end to another summer.  Each year, I'm a little psychologically off balance for the first few weeks of cool weather, as if I've misplaced something in my life, and then one day I suddenly realize once again that, oh yeah, it was summer that I lost and it will be back again next year.

I finally got my daffodil and crocus bulbs in the ground today and had wear a jacket to do it.  That makes it an official goodbye.

Snap!! I had a BLT for breakfast this morning!

Evil man...that looks too good, now I want bacon in some form for lunch :D

You're mean! We have some tomatoes on our bushes--but I can't taste anything!!! Yours looks fabulous!

Pam--You rock!

Jeff--I know! I was craving some too. Now seeing the photo again it will be all I can do not to go have a big breakfast out since I have to run by work this morning for a couple of hours...dang!

Sher--LOL! Gee, and yet for some reason I don't feel bad at all--since our tomato bushes have long since been PULLED UP! But I do hope your cold gets better soon.

It is SO hard to use up the last of those summer tomatoes. I had to toss a few that had sunken into sad despair on my kitchen counter. The rest went into dinner. That sandwich looks SO delicious!

is that mustard I see??? I do like but not on a BLT!

Kate--I know and now I have a hard time looking at the grocery store tomatoes because they look like little lost orphans whom no one loves quite as much as the beautiful home grown ones from summer. Sigh. I guess we'll be adopting them soon though, when we get desperate.

DayByDay--Yes! Mustard! Spicy Brown mustard even. It's the ticket.
