Size 8 dpn needles/ worsted weight (#4 weight) yarn

Gauge: 5 sts x 6 rows = 1 inch

 

Size (Small preemie 1.5-2.5lbs, Med preemie 3-4.5lbs, Lrg Preemie 5-7lbs)

 

CO (35,40,45)

Join in the round and knit first round.

*Purl 4 rows.

Knit 4 rows.*

Repeat * to * (2,3,4) times more.

Decrease:

Purl 4 rows.

K2tog, K3 and rpt around.

Knit all sts.

K2tog, K2 and rpt around.

Knit all sts.

Purl 4 rows.

Knit all sts.

K2tog, K1 and rpt around.

K2tog and rpt arnd.

K2tog and rpt arnd.

Work as I-cord for 0.5" and BO.

Weave in all ends.

 

Finishing:  Decorate with bee charms, buttons, or knitted bees if desired.

Just wanted to let you know - I'm starting a knitting club at the local school my husband works at, to knit things for the community hospital. We live in India & most of the women at the local hospital have 0 for their babies - for the first few days, the babies are without hats, diapers, or clothes in general. They're also generally around 4lbs at birth (full-term). We'll be haunting your site getting some of these great preemie/NICU patterns - thanks for putting them up!
